How To Find Funding For Your Homeschoolers
Homeschooling offers families the flexibility to tailor their child's education to their unique needs and interests. However, it can also be challenging to find the financial resources to support homeschooling initiatives.
State-Level Funding
Many states offer grants, tax credits, or reimbursements to homeschooling families. One popular option is Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) or Empowerment Scholarship Accounts. These programs allow families to use public funds for educational expenses, including school supplies, curriculum materials, and tutoring.
So what’s actually available to homeschooling families?
Arizona homeschool funding is available for those that live in the state. Arizona uses ESAs, which can provide up to 90% of the state funding that would have been given to a public school for that student.
Oklahoma offers a small incentive for families who homeschool, up to about $1,000 per year. However, it's important to check with the state to clarify what homeschooling curriculums qualify. This incentive is usually paid as a refundable tax credit for the previous year, rather than upfront.
Tax Deductions
Some states offer tax deductions for homeschooling expenses. For example, Indiana offers tax deductions of up to $1,000 per child for homeschooling-related expenses. Be sure to keep your receipts to take advantage of these deductions and be aware of the process of reporting the deductions on your tax return.
Private Funding and Scholarships
If your state doesn't offer incentives or funds for homeschooling at the state or federal level, you can also explore private options. Check with local schools and educational organizations, as well as faith-based groups and nonprofits, to see if they offer scholarships for specific subjects or areas of study, like the arts or music. Some public schools may even allow your homeschooled child to participate in in-person classes or activities.
