Resources for Galaxy Art Project

Setting the Stage

A galaxy is a huge group of stars, dust, gas, and their solar systems, all held together by gravity. The galaxy that we live in is called the Milky Way. Scientists think there are over 100 billion galaxies. When you look up at the stars at night you’re seeing stars that are in the Milky Way. Our galaxy, the Milky Way, is spiral-shaped. Some other galaxies are also spiral-shaped, some are elliptical, smooth and oval shaped, and some are irregular shapes and look like blobs.
Supplies Needed for Insider's Club Members (or if you're a box subscriber & want to purchase additional supplies)
•Recommended book – optional: The Secret Galaxy by Fran Hodgkins. You can purchase it or find it at your local library. We couldn’t find a read aloud of our book this month but this video (referenced above) by FreeSchool, will give you a great overview of our galaxy.
•Something to cover your work surface like butcher paper, an old shower curtain or tablecloth, or a garbage bag and some paper towels or rags.
•Print this Project Plan
•Black Paper like this
•Chalk Crayon Set, soft pastel set, or oil pastel set
•Mountain Template
•Make-up sponges like these. We LOVE them, you can get them on Amazon or at your local drugstore. Paper towels can also work, although not as well.
*Some of the product links above are Amazon affiliate links. We receive a very very small commission if you purchase through them (which we hope you will if you purchase supplies!) They do NOT affect your price at all!
