Resources for Bird's Eye View & Worm's Eye View Drawings

Here's a read aloud we found on YouTube of the book, Tuesday, by David Wiesner. Since the story has almost no words, it's not exactly a read aloud, more like a tour of the book set to music!

Setting the Stage

The word perspective can have multiple meanings in art. Our perspective, or point of view, changes depending on where we are. A worm’s eye view is the view a worm would have looking up from the ground. A bird’s eye view is the view a bird has looking down while it is flying!

Supplies Needed for Insider's Club Members (or if you're a box subscriber & want to purchase additional supplies)

•Scrap paper to put underneath the edges of your drawings as you work to protect your work surface. We don’t recommend newspaper because it will get your hands and drawings dirty.

•Optional Book, Tuesday by David Wiesner

•Drawing Paper: you can draw on almost any paper, even printer paper. If you want to save your drawings for a long time, the paper should be acid free drawing paper. We like this one.

Additional Activities for Worm's Eye View & Bird's Eye View

•lay on your back on the grass in a park or yard, look up and discuss how everything looks different from a worm's eye view

•if you happen to be traveling on an airplane, look out the window when the ground is visible and see how everything looks different from above (bird's eye view)

•if you have a balcony, with an adult's permission & assistance, look down at the ground and notice how everything looks different from above

•set some toys up in a scene on the floor, with the help of an adult, stand on a chair and take a photo of them from above
